What the Lake Bled Toboggan Actually Is

On Straža, the small hill rising directly above the lake, a chairlift carries you up and a 520-metre steel track brings you back down — with 131 metres of vertical drop, banked curves and speeds up to 40 km/h. You sit on a wheeled sled with a single brake lever between your knees: push forward to go, pull back to slow down. You are in full control the whole way, which is exactly why it works for kids and grandparents as well as for people who release the brake completely.

In winter Straža is Bled's tiny ski slope; in summer the toboggan is its main event, joined by an adventure park in the trees next to it and a tube jump at the bottom.

How to Get There

This is the easiest logistics in Bled: the chairlift base sits at the foot of Straža hill, a short walk from the lake promenade on the south-eastern side of the lake. From the centre of Bled you are there in about ten minutes on foot — no bus, no parking drama. If you do drive, there is a parking area right by the base station.

Go right at 10:00 when it opens, or after 17:00 when day-trippers leave; the evening light over the lake from the top is spectacular anyway. One more local trick: summer rain empties the hill — the first hour after the track dries and reopens, you will have it almost to yourself.

Families should budget for at least two rides per person, because one is never enough. The caveat: it is 90 seconds.
