Where to Eat in Bled: Kremna Rezina and Other Local Favorites
You could visit Bled and only eat cake, and honestly, nobody would blame you. But there’s more good food here than the famous slice everyone talks about.
Kremna Rezina (Bled Cream Cake)
You can’t write about food in Bled without starting here. It’s a simple cake – layers of flaky pastry, vanilla custard, and whipped cream – invented at a hotel by the lake back in the 1950s and copied by basically every café in town since. The original recipe is still the benchmark, but plenty of local bakeries make a version worth trying. Order it with a coffee, sit somewhere with a lake view, and take your time – this isn’t a cake you rush.
Beyond the Cake: What Else to Try
- Bled štruklji – rolled dumplings, savory or sweet, often filled with cottage cheese
- Trout from the local rivers – freshwater fish shows up on menus all over the region, usually simply grilled
- Jota – a hearty bean and sauerkraut stew, good on a cold day and rarely found outside Slovenia
- Local honey and cheese – the surrounding valleys have a strong dairy and beekeeping tradition, and you’ll see it sold at small stands and markets
Where to Actually Sit Down
The restaurants directly on the lakefront charge a premium for the view, which is fair enough, but you’ll generally eat better and pay less if you walk a few minutes into the town center. That’s true almost everywhere in Bled: the first row of restaurants facing the water is built for tourists passing through, while the better, more consistent food tends to be one or two streets back, where locals actually eat.
Earn the Cake
Our slightly biased opinion: kremna rezina tastes better after a couple of hours outdoors. A morning on an ATV through the hills, then back down into town for cake and coffee with a view of the lake you were just looking down on – it’s a good rhythm for a day here, and one a lot of our guests fall into without really planning it that way.

Adventure First, Cake After
